it's so nice to read
that you had fun
I didn't once think of the xgf. Not once. So even if it was just a friendly conversation and nothing more, it told me something about where I am on my journey. I had some doubts after the last couple of weeks, with all the reminiscing and nostalgia I'd been experiencing.
Oh, and it was a very big meetup. Heheh, it was an 11/11/11 meetup. Close to 3 dozen people attended, plus half a dozen first-timers. Really great and fun group of folks!!! And so far 50 are signed up for Lights on the Lake. Sweet!!!
I didn't join the several meetup groups to date, but just do fun stuff with like-minded people. I think I'm going to try some snowshoeing this winter, and I've recently joined a primitive skills group. As soon as one of the group bags a deer, a meetup will be set to skin, quarter and butcher it with primitive stone tools and prepare the hide for tanning.
Feeling that kind of connection with someone who shares common interests and enthusiasm for life is such a very special gift, and then a good hug from them is such a healing and wonderful thing. The real cherry on the top after a great time.
I am so happy for you. Enjoy it!!
I can't even begin to express how thrilled I am with all the people I've met and continue to meet in the groups I've joined. Fellow Mets fans (a couple of us have gone to catch B-Mets games in Binghamton), fellow transplanted NYCers, people with my love for the outdoors, professionals from my field. Heheh, we even have a MD who was just down in DC last weekend to audition for one of those reality talent shows (I think America's Got Talent?).
Really diverse and great, great bunch of people!!!
And to think, back in early 2008 I was in such a funk, and the very last thing I wanted to do was relocate to the CNY region of New York. Hahah, there was a Silver Lining in the ominous black cloud that had engulfed me for so long.
I often sit here in absolute amazement at how drastically things have turned around. I'd never, ever have imagined it possible at the time. Not in a million years...
