I'd say he's an emotional moron- guess she cheated on him and he had an epiphany- it doesn't feel good. He never understood before how badly he actually hurt you because you had never cheated on him. I doubt that he had such deep feelings for this new girl- it's just the horrible feeling he has now that he's been cheated on- made him feel pretty darn low I'd day. What goes around comes around! Don't let it upset you- have a cheer that ha ha ha- you loser you're not so great as you thought you were!

Or...he finally gets it and is truly sorry for hurting you the way he did. The reality is though...you can not interpret this apology as any more than just that...do not respond and do not entertain the idea of taking him back. He made his bed.

he is not thinking about how it will hurt you, just how he is hurting. Its his passive aggressive way to get some attention for what must have just happened to him.

I would say he texted you to see if there is a chance he can come back. Sadly, many cheaters do this--go back to the one they left, claiming how sorry they were for hurting the left behind partner. Unfortunately, they usually cheat again.
