the hardest lesson for me was understanding that begging, pleading and pursuing only pushed them away faster. it has the opposite affect than you may think. in any relationship there is a distancer and a pursuer. when balanced, the relationship is balanced, when one sided the pursuer pushes the distancer further away
frequently people act on current feelings and not on rational logic - trying to figure things out from that perspective will frustrate you to no end and won't yield any real conclusions
I like that you're setting a goal to have your place the way you want it in a year. May I share your May 21, 2018 date for doing the same? Ex is due to move out on May 21, 2017 and a year sounds perfectly reasonable! Happy Birthday a week in advance!
And I get the no money thing. Sure, I'd like a trip or to go on a shopping excursion, or out to dinner with friends whenever I want, or to finally buy that new Coach bag, but that stuff can't happen now. I try to force myself to appreciate something beautiful each day, like the cherry blossoms I see at work, or the color of the sky, the baby birds and their momma on my front porch, or whatever strikes my fancy. Appreciate it and try to keep it in mind. Often I take photos of these things. We'll get through, we'll improvise.

@mirandac I thought about it but I worked so hard to get this house. It was the first thing I was able to truly call mine...only at the time I also saw it as being ours and our home we would raise our future children in.
Right now it's just a lonely time. We were together for so long and he also had a son from a previous relationship that I helped raise since he was 4 months old. I miss our "family". But you all are right. I need to see what's there in front of me right now and appreciate it. I at least have my sister near by and her husband and 5 kids that welcome me over whenever I need it and I have my dog and cats when I'm at home.
