No custody issues, nasty, a year and half exactly.

My divorce has been final for 1 year next week. Our children are grown and out of the nest, but it still took 5 years and 3 months to divorce him. This is very unusual so don't use me as a gage.
Just know that for each person, it is different and often frustrating.

5 months.. no kids, no house.. uncontested divorce, no lawyers.

My divorce took 30 months. That is not a typo, it took two and a half years. We had no kids, extensive property or strange circumstances. It seemed like her attorney would file some silly motion, mine would file a counter motion, and on and on.

No offense to any DS members who may be attorneys, but I'm convinced by the total I paid in attorney's fees that they were intentionally screwing me.

15 months. Felt like forever, but after reading about others here, I realize that's not bad at all. We did have custody issues.

The whore my H kicked me out for , and moved her in? Her divorce took 6 months and 1 day. Yep. He said he was going to grandparents birthday party. Was really moving his whore out of her house.

Thanks all now I'm crushed I was informed 90 days by the state of WA. It's been 58 and it's been pure hell.

Someone shoot me and put me iut of my misery if it goes over 91 and 3/4 days.

No kids, just property settlement but neither one of us want the house - maybe just give it to the lawyers.

One reason my divorce took so long is because our attorneys cunningly got us to sign a no contact agreement. That meant that ANYTHING we needed to communicate to each other had to go through our attorneys before it got to us.

After our divorce was final I learned that a lot of what I needed my ex-wife to know was filtered, or never got to her at all. An example of this was a settlement offer I made. My attorney never passed it along which prolonged the process.

When I looked at it logically this is what I came to realize; Attornerys are paid by the hour, in my case $400/hour. What incentive do they have to speed things up?

They don't have any incentive to speed it up only slow it down.

52 days. He decided to go the mediation route and I agreed. I agreed to his terms, and it went pretty quickly.

I had filed last year, and then dismissed it and got stuck with the retainer. So, the divorce cost me 3500$ plus interest, and him 400$. I'm sure that if we both had attny's our fee's would have been pretty high, and the divorce would have been strung out.

I wished I would have never let the attny sucker me for a non refundable retainer fee.

@rbm - Did the attorney you retained do $3,500 worth of work? If he/she didn't you're entitled to a refund for the unused portion of that retainer. You should ask for an itemized statement showing the expenses. If you get some lip from the attorney, go to your state's Bar Association.

I've been wondering about that, Lance. I asked her for an itemized statement in Feb, and have not received one, and I really don't think she's done that much work.

about a month. We have three kids, a house, and other property together. married 11 yrs, together for 16 yrs. He had a lawyer, I did not. I now regret that there wasn't some type of trial separation, to adjust to the major changes of the divorce, and tweak the papers based on that. But we didn't.

Having said that, it's been 6 months since the divorce, and I think my ex wants me back. A part of me is considering it, but then I am crazy...
