Breakups & Divorce Support Group
Just broke up with someone or in the midst of a difficult divorce? Breaking up is difficult no matter what the circumstances are. They say that time heals all wounds, but sometimes a listening ear or a hug can work wonders for the heart. Whether you need a place to vent, someone to hold you to No Contact, or need advice about what to do, we're here to help.
Jumping from the frying pan into the fire is, at best, a temporary, distraction. (It's not even a solution.) As I said in my comment in another post, it's not fair to the other person and it just postpones our pain.
In order to have a healthy relationship w/another person, we must first have one with ourselves.
kbb gave some good advice. In addition, do volunteer work that you enjoy, find (or go back to) a hobby you like. Do things w/friends and groups. But until you're healed, dating is not helpful.
When we don't do our work, we end up bringing all the 'junk in our trunks' into the next relationship.
A lot of people think someone else can make them happy. That is completely wrong. The ONLY one who can make us happy is us.
Dating sites is the worse option b/c you aren't dating people who know you and would care about you - these are strangers that won't understand or care about you, your grief, etc. I wouldn't say they aren't a good option, but not now, perhaps later down the line when you have fully recovered.
You mentioned that you are overweight, perhaps this is the time to try to become active, that helps distract our minds from our issues. Locate a local track and go for walks, come around nature or join a gym.
Good luck.
Good luck and stay strong.
I, too, was left after 24 years of marriage and couldn't EVEN imagine having dated so soon after he left. It took almost 2 years before I was "healed". I had a wonderful therapist and outside of work, I attended bible study and went for a lot of walks. Plus, it just took everything I had emotionally to just get through the divorce itself (a year and a half).
Please take the time to heal and love yourself before venturing into the dating world again. There are more and more single people over 40 than ever before, so thinking you will be alone forever may not be true. I met my dh online only a month after my divorce was final and I was 48 and thought I'D be alone forever.
