Breakups & Divorce Support Group
Just broke up with someone or in the midst of a difficult divorce? Breaking up is difficult no matter what the circumstances are. They say that time heals all wounds, but sometimes a listening ear or a hug can work wonders for the heart. Whether you need a place to vent, someone to hold you to No Contact, or need advice about what to do, we're here to help.
I divorced my husband of 21 years due to his infidelity, and unmanaged bipolar condition. It was the toughest thing I ever had to do. As I sit back, and mull over the decision I made to leave him, my 3 boys suffer. They unfortunately have seen, and heard both sides, and are probably numb to all of the craziness. I am trying to help them get back on track, but they refuse counseling from a therapist, church, and peer counselor. They are trying to move forward, but I see the pain. I don't know what to do, or how to help. They don't want to talk to me about their feelings, but they support my decisions.
As time has passed, my ex has remarried, and somewhat cut the kids off. He doesn't care how they're doing mentally, and doesn't try to be a father to them. Sometimes he acts as if he doesn't have kids. Other times he likes to show off his boys.
My ex spends so much unnecessary time lying to our kids, (and his wife) about me that I worry if my boys will start to believe his bs. I know his wife believes it.
What bothers me is his wife is wealthy, and likes to spoil my boys. I love that she does this, but I'm afraid I will lose one, or more of them to her. There's nothing like having someone in your corner who can buy you whatever you want, whenever you want it. These are my boys. I love them with every molecule in my body. To lose one, or more due to his lies will literally kill me. My youngest doesn't call, or text me, and rarely responds back to me. What do I do? Could the lies really tear my kids away from me?
How is it that you try to do right in a relationship, and get screwed so badly? Why does he get a wealthy wife, and I have to struggle? What nessage is God trying to send me? I honored my husband for 21 years. Why does he get to dissect me, and move on with a great life?
Would I have won if were an ah too?
Help, I'm having a panic attack.

Just thought I would join this group now that I am a widower. My wife passed away May 28th. She was "The Wind Beneath My Wings". When I met her, I was a drunken, dope smoking, fighting, hell raising biker. She told me if I could get rid of the inner storm within me, that I could be a blessing to people. God placed her in my path to stop me. I have been drug and alcohol free now for 53...

My husband and I got our foster license last month, after 3 years of hard work (we had to start over multiple times due to family dramas and Mom's open heart surgery). We spent a year preparing the whole house, guest rooms, and children's bathroom for older kids of 7 yr old and up. Then we got a call that we have been approved to receive twin newborn premies. What, what?!! Babies!? Premies?!...

My daughter was daddy's little girl. When I filed for divorce I tried real hard not to say anything(good or bad) about her dad.
I gave her space. I saw her only once a year at Thanksgiving at one of the local restaurants. She wouldn't return phone calls. So my calls got few and far between. I had given up when one night three years later she called. She is firmly back in my life with two little ones. Her dad dropped her from his life and hasn't seen his grandson.
I'm not saying it will take that long. Don't mention their dad and think before you speak. You probably do think before you say anything. Just give them their own space and time to work thru the mess of the divorce. Your ex's bi polar doesn't help your sons either
I hope you have a therapist for yourself. I still see my therapist but the ex is never mentioned now. I live in the boonies on a farm and my therapist now gives me suggestions for farm problems.
Your boys will be okay and stay in your life
Thanks for your response
So many of us have been in the spot you're in now. And the only way to survive is to carry on being you, ignore the hubby, let him and his wife be who they are. Never mention them. Just do your thing with the boys.
If you don't hear from the son, go visit him. Go see him, take him out.
While you are convinced this is all about the ex husband, you can overlook the real problems your kids face in their lives. Take an interest in their lives, what's going on for them, talk to them, enjoy their company.
And let dad do whatever he likes.
Forge your own relationship with them and it won't matter what anyone says.
Its sad, very sad that a divorce can cause ones feelings to change about their own kids.
God be with us
Also, I suggest trying to forget about "fairness", and comparing your life to what you perceive as your ex's happily ever after. If he's still non-medicated bi-polar, his life will eventually come crashing down. Difference is - this time you won't be the one it comes crashing down on. Stay strong.
keep doing your best to do the right
don't trash talk your ex to your
but
do not be untruthful, if conversation leads to stating objectively how that man behaved be honest
The important thing is not to say anything negative about their Dad. Speak the truth of course, but only when necessary.. Trust me, they know how he is and will see his true nature, but don't add to it.
Continue praying for and reaching out to them. They may not respond but they do value and appreciate it.
I'm glad that you're wondering what God is trying to teach you. This is so wonderfully positive because it shows that you are aware of His presence even during these difficult times. I can assure you that at the end, you will receive Joy unspeakable and you will be victorious. He promises us that ALL things work for good for they that TRUST the LORD and are THE CALLED according to His purpose.
God Bless.
I also had a divorce after 20 years of marriage and know it is a devastating thing to go through for many people- including the kids. he has moved forward and remarried- maybe now you should as well. If there is any unforgiveness- whether he deserves it or not, you need to deal with that first and forgive- the forgiveness isn't for him but for yourself. If there is a divorcecare or celebrate recovery in your area get connected with others. your boys will always be your sons but as they grow up the truth will be known and it isn't an easy thing to embrace but depending on their ages you can't force them to talk about their feelings- they may not even know what they are yet but in my experience the divorce is no different than a death as far as grieving goes. praying for you and would love to talk more if you'd like.
