Update: the night after I let him go, he was at our house watching our daughter while I went out with a friend. When I got home that night, he tells me he gets so sad every time he looks at me. He ended up kissing me and we had sex and then he says he's sorry and that shouldn't have happened and he left and went back to his parents house. Today I found out that he lied and had this girls phone number in his phone under a guys name. I asked him about it and he lied and said he didn't have her number and when he knew he was caught he started lashing out on me, blaming me for snooping. He said he clearly ended it with me and I have no right to be checking up on him anymore. By ending it he is referring to the details below in my original post. But the next night he comes and has sex with me so I was a bit confused about what he wanted. He is still on his parents cell phone bill and they looked at the account and said it's disgusting what he is doing with this girl as he is married to me. His dad wants to kick him out of their house. He stays up all night every night texting her. And he lies to me repeatedly about it and lies about it in counseling. I'm done with him. I gave him so many chances to tell the truth and he didn't. And I know realize the guilt he feels isn't from not wanting our marriage. He knows he is wrong for his actions. And I am so angry at him.
Original post: this has been the longest month of my life. My husband of 3 years said there is something wrong in our relationship and we needed to go to counseling. I agreed that we had been very distant for so long and felt positive that counseling was the right direction for us. The day after our first counseling session I discovered a conversation between him and a girl at work. In the conversation he is offering her support and telling her things about himself that he never told me after being together for 7 years. It was obvious he had shared a lot of very personal information about our relationship to this girl as well. I was devastated and when confronted he got extremely mad at me and told me he didn't want this marriage and left to stay at his parents house. The next day he told me that he thought about it, apologized and wanted to continue to work on our marriage. We have fought a lot the past couple weeks because I am so scared and hurt and I'm looking to get reassurance from him that he does love me and wants to make this work and he can't give it to me. He's been honest that he doesn't have feelings for me anymore. He insists nothing is going on with that girl and that she is just a friend and they barely talk now. I caught him in another lie today. He told me he was working late and would be picking up our daughter and coming home later. That was a lie. He left work in time and did something for an hour that he doesn't want me to know about. When confronted he got mad and sad he went to a bar alone for a drink because he needed time to himself. He said he couldn't tell me that because I would accuse him of going to the bar with someone. He got home with our daughter and was so mad at me he wouldn't talk. Then he started having a panic attack and broke down saying "I f'd up, I f'd up so badly, I ruined everything" I waited for a confession of some kind but nothing came. He said he doesn't want our marriage and he feels really bad because he knows I am trying and he doesn't have it in him to try. He seemed truly conflicted and guilty over this. It hurt me so much to see him that way. So I told him it was okay that he felt that way and that I'm letting him go and taking the pressure and weight off his shoulders. He cried and said he was sorry and that he wanted to love me and just can't bring himself to try. He hugged me and he left to go home to his parent's house where he has been staying the past week. He still says there is no one else. He told me he doesn't love me anymore and wants to end our marriage, why wouldn't he just admit if there was someone else at this point?
I'm heartbroken. Still holding out some hope that giving him time and space will make him want to come home to me and our daughter. We agreed to continue couples counseling to learn how to coparent and try to make this as healthy as possible moving forward. I think I'm still in denial that this is all happening. Does anyone think there is any chance that he could change his mind?
Truth is...he is deflecting. If it was really torturous for him he would try to spare you his guilt. He knows you love him. You are his backup.
I agree to a point with vwidow. He chose you once. But is he choosing you NOW? Don't relinquish your power or confidence to HIM either. You are strong. There is a lot in you to love. Don't let his actions now destroy your confidence and self-esteem. This is less to do with you and more to do with him. You chose him...every day in your marriage you chose him. Do you not deserve the same?
Regardless of HIS actions, YOUR actions should be loving towards yourself. Give yourself time to deal with his actions and let him deal with his own. Support him by making yourself stronger.
When confronted he got so mad, he looked at me like I was accusing him of murder.
I'm not saying he is cheating on you, but there is something he feels guilty about. Love does not disappear over night.
My advice is, no matter how much you want to see him or talk to him, limit contact whit him, don't beg, I did that and was the worst. I only see it now. when they see you desperate and sad they only corroborate why they want to go in the first place.
Right now, he is in selfish mode. No matter what you do, he is first. Let him go and in the meantime do something for yourself, something you always wanted to do. I did dancing lessons, he was so surprised. He left anyways. Hardest thing ever but I can't be with someone that does not love me. I have discovered the joy of being alone with my kids.
Please do yourself a favor, do not lose your dignity, it takes so much to get it back. Checked out husbands can't be convinced they have to figure things on their own.
Mine left and I'm sure he will regret it and when he does I will be on the other side with a never ending smile.
Cheaters will only admit to the things the betrayed spouse already knows. If they've cheated 50 times and you only catch them once, they'll admit to the once and never mention the other 49 times.
keep well
Our marriage wasn't great for a year or 2 from both sides and i was suffering with mental health problems (Anxiety) which obviously contributed. I did everything I could as soon as I realised we were in extreme crisis, i know i should have done it sooner but hindsight is a wonderful thing I sought counselling for my own issues, organised relationship counselling and also worked on it everyday for 3 weeks after I found out my wife had been emotional confiding in another man and had kissed him. All through the 3 weeks after D=day i battled so hard to forget the cheating and focus on what could be an amazing future, but in the end she didnt want it and we seperated on Sunday of this week. Il be honest and admit im struggling with it due to the consequence on the family home (we have 2 kids) and how dishonest and underhanded this has all been. There is NEVER an excuse for cheating. If you arent happy be a decent human being and leave with dignity and respect for the relationship. Ive since found my wife and her emotional affair have a date planned for Saturday (6 days after we decided to seperate!) its disgraceful behaviour but not a great deal i can do about it now. Im glad to know all this so i can begin the grieving process and move on with my life. Il be honest I know this is all going to backfire at some point and the realisation of what this all means will hit her bang in the face and she will come back begging. However there is no chance in hell that will ever happen now. Stay strong, be real with yourself that hit hurts but this wont last forever. THIS TOO SHALL PASS. All the very best to you.
Hint one, " In the conversation he is offering her support and telling her things about himself that he never told me after being together for 7 years. " . . . .
There wasn't the usual dirty msgs, talk abt their next sex session ( becoz there wasn't any ), if all that another woman had to do to ' seduce ' your husband was to listen, understand, offer support and just show him she cares then there really was a problem in the relationship.
He just found someone who cares enough to listen, and the man pours out his heart. Unfortunately that person isn't his wife
' The victim of infidelity ' cheating ' in a marriage is not necessarily the victim of the relationship.'
You later confirmed my theory in your later post, ". . .
I took out my frustrations on him and I would yell and criticize him. I wasn't the most loving wife. We rarely had sex. I was very rude about his family and said bad things about them and they never did anything to deserve that. I haven't felt normal since I had my daughter. . .gave up on taking care of myself and I showed him no love or affection. I was overwhelmed and agin yelled at him for not helping as much."
He didn't cheat on you dear, that other woman's kindness and friendship made him realise that there was somethng wrong with the way his wife treats him.
Who has had more sex partners before marriage, hubby or you? If it's the later then I my explanation is right.
" I think the reason they lie is because if they tell the truth then they have to admit what they are doing is wrong and they should stop and they don't want to stop so they don't admit it is wrong."
This applies to not just cheating spouses, but all kinds of lies out there. This one is going on my quote board.
