Gut feeling

A lot of people talk about the "gut" feeling, that sixth sense. Follow your gut, trust your instincts they are always right. How do you know what's right? what's wrong? When do you trust your "gut"?
I didn't trust my gut feeling before and eventually it prove me to be right. Right now is telling me not to quit, to have patience but what I'm wrong? What if I'm just listening to my heart? What if I'm just setting myself for failure and more heartbreak?

Goodprovider, your post about being flooded and cortisol is exactly what I have been feeling for two weeks now, now I know what to combat and thank you for the info.

I'm no expert about the flooding thing. Its hard to explain without reading the book. But its basically an overwhelming feeling of dread, stress, panic, etc when you're frustrated, angry or fighting with your spouse.

But it might relate to the walking on eggshells too. I used to walk on eggshells all the time with my STBX. I always felt it was in anticipation or fear of our next fight. The slightest misstep or misinterpreted choice of words could cause an aggressive/explosive response in him.

I'm glad to hear that others relate to the flooding. It was reassuring to me (when i read about it) that I wasn't giving up on a salvageable relationship because per the experts we were already too far gone to get it back.
