I talked to my son today about the breakup and he just had this "he was a selfish jerk" attitude. That made me feel like he was seeing me as a stupid, foolish old woman, who fell for some con man or something. I don't know why he decided to cheat, but we were genuinely in love and very happy before that. My son just made me feel like there was never anything real between me and my ex and I was just with him because I wanted to be with "someone" (in fact he said something to that effect--that I just wanted to be in a relationship).
After we got off the phone I was really upset. I probably shouldn't have done this, but I sent him an email to the effect that if anyone was a selfish jerk it was HIS father. He was a total narcissisist--everything was all about him. The only reason (and I told my son this) that I stayed with him is because I knew if I left he'd make everyone's life total hell and I wanted my son to get through school and get his life together without the jackass upsetting everyone because his precious ego had been hurt. I had every intention of leaving him after my son graduated law school--I was lucky--his father died before that. It was like getting out on parole for me.
I love my son dearly, and am so proud of him. He's a great husband and father (sometimes I think he used his dad as an example of "what not to do"). But his negating my feelings just really hurt me.
He usually calls me Sunday morning. Hopefully we can clear the air
you but sometimes the truth itself hurts?The reason I say this is if your son is an excellent father,provider
and all then he may be good at also judging someones character especially when that someone is associated
with someone that he loves dearly.You know he loves you right? The truth always sets one free. Your son
is not a kid,He is a man.There is nothing wrong with you taking the initiative to call him- peace and clarity,hugs

i think that most of what your son said to you was meant for his father, he can't say it to his father, even if he could he knows that his father has deaf ears for hearing such
it must really suck to be a principled man and know that your father is a turd
if i were in your shous it would be hard to let it roll off my back but it is what this event needs, later you can tell him that you stayed for xy&z and let him see a little of your weakness in such, i think he'll understand
