That is a very personal choice. When I was separated, I made my facebook status private so it didn't show in my information, then I didn't have to field any questions. Come to think of it, I believe it is still private and doesn't show up under my 'about' section. Do what makes you more comfortable. Just be aware, if you change it to separated or divorced, you are probably going to start fielding questions about the change. This is another good reason to keep it private when you change it, it doesn't show up on everyone's feed that you changed your relationship status.

facebook is the worst the moment you change anything everyone asks what happened. I cant tell you how many messages I got from people I rarely even speak to! my ex changed his status to single pretty much the same day he broke up with me so I guess for him it was easy.

I was engaged a few years ago to my previous ex and he called off the wedding a little over a month before the wedding! having to call everyone personally to notify them of this was horrible so I say a facebook change doesn't feel as hard to me anymore in comparison but I also agree with sja put ur settings to private

When we separated, due to him cheating on me, I just deleted my relationship status all together. I dont have a relationship status at all to this day. Maybe after the divorce is final for a while I'll change it to "single." But this way I dont have to deal with people asking about what I changed it to, I just dont have one at all.

I deactivated my Facebook account immediately after we separated and left it that way for about a month or two. When I reactivated, I think I left it married for a while, then eventually I deleted the relationship status. I don't know if I'll ever put single on there. It's not anyone's business.

Thanks everyone. I had heard about changing to only me seeing the status. I looked and it seem it is already set to only me...hmm...I just can't get myself to change it.
