i'm not sure if this is the right group to post this in but i feel so lost and cofnused that any advice would be really useful. i began talking to somone who is 12 years older than me and we kept it a secret for a few months. then, my mum found out and is insisting that we end things because it is unatural and doesn't follow society. part of me knows i should maybe end things because there is such a gap, but it feels too painful to let go and i would find it difficult to cope. i am just in need of advice
Instead of sneaking around and lying...they stayed friends. She grew up, and about 5 years later they started dating as both adults. At that point, it was no longer "too painful for her to let go". If things hadn't worked out...she'd have been free to leave.
It really wasn't about "him". Even though one feels grown up at 17...(and trust me, my friend had been through a LOT in life, and was rather grown up, with a job that was contributing to her living expenses and everything)....but you're still NOT grown up.
Those 5 years made a BIG difference.
My advice....if you're interested in a long term relationship...wait.
