I'm just betting that if Pem thought the doc was wrong, and there was something worse happening, the doc would have gotten an earful.

Sheesh, I am heading for one of those right now, picking up someone who went in on Tuesday! One of three I know that got hospitalized this week! (So I don't have time to read the controversy that may have transpired between the initial post & my reply, I'll do that later, lol.) It seems to me that if you have really good insurance they like to keep you for days on end and run every test known to man. I feel bad for people w/o insurance and their numbers will grow right along with unemployment rates. (I am on a doom & gloom economy jaunt right now.) Anywya, off to the ER!

Cat, I'm glad you have a follow up with a specialist. Despite what has been said here...I have to say that my last trip to the emergency room was very positive so not all Emergency Rooms are "overwhelmed".

Sadly this country has been in a "health care crisis" for some time now...with the state of our economy our health care situation probably won't improve any time soon.

When I sliced my fingers on a hedge trimmer (don't ask - it involved an olive tree and klutzism), I spent three hours in the ER mostly dripping blood on the floor. Not pretty but eventually I was seen and got stitches.

You did the right thing. Me personally would have gone to an urgent care clinic. They are usually faster and cheaper and if it is serious, will make you go to the ER. You will usually get seen immediately.

My mom went to the urgent care clinic with chest pains and they took her by ambulance to the ER, she was seen right away.

Glad it wasn't serious and glad you're following up with GI doc. Hope everyting turns out ok.

pemcat---i can understand what you are saying about seemingly "wasting" all the time/money just to find out "its not that serious"...but I guess its better to KNOW that and have piece of mind. However, from this nurse's perspective, if the bleeding/symptoms worsen...please go see your Primary Care doc, he/she should be able to spend more time w/ you than an ER doc...and suggest a scope if you feel it is necessary...you have to be your own advocate in healthcare these days! Best of luck to you---get some rest! :)
