I don't have any family in my immediate vicinity to make a quick decision. They are, at least, an hour away and my parents, well meaning though they are, are unreliable.
I don't really have a choice and it's not the worst choice I can think of.
I mean, she's the mother of my son. She should be in the loop if I'm permanently indisposed.

A general question now....saying that...should the ex or stbx if you have kids always be the "emergency contact"??
If you get remarried, hm, idk , i'd prolly change my primary to the current and secondary to ex, if the kids were not of age anyway.
on the emergency contacts for the school, I always had a friend/neighbor, because the Ex probably wouldn't have even known where to go to pick the kid up.
And the neighbors had me as their kid em. contact in case she wasn't around.
If I remarried (*once again, pausing for laughter*), the contact would be the new wife. And, she could call or text or send smoke signals to the ex.
Just my opinion.
Once remarried I agree I would make the new wife the emergency contact.
