Bugger it all to hell, the Grench came early this year and put Gremlins in my laptop. My computer will be down for a while, unfortunately. Not sure what the deal is but I am thinking that I will have to format the harddrive and re-load every single program back on the harddrive. Virus scan isn't picking anything up and this is a brand new virus scan.

The computer boots up but it won't open internet explorer. It doesn't let me add or remove hardware either. What a PITA!!!!!!!!!!

If anyone sees the Grench walking around, let him know that when I find him I am going to keel drag him after having him kiss the gunner's daughter!

Oh yeah.

I used to work in a big ole computer store in the PC repair "cave". One customer had this problem where everytime his system was up it would start off okay then sloooow down to the point where it was unsuable until you rebooted.

Turns out he had all of these dialer programs for porn on his system. He was so busy polishing the gopher and getting charged big bucks for the international phone rates he didn't notice that the dialers were also tojans stealing his sweet, tasty credit card numbers.

That thing took a formatting or two, plus we had to clean out the boot sector. May have had to repartition his drive, too. It was messy.

you on Vista Heave? Might be a conflict with the bittorrent and your virus software and the brwser you are trying to use.

I am not touching the computer until I get up with my brother because he is incredible with computers. We will fix it. Until then I am at the mercy of OPC...Other People's Computers.

What anti-virus do you run? I'd recommend AVG from Grisoft, they even have a free version that is excellent. I stopped running Norton or any other "pay" programs years ago and have never gotten a virus ... and yes I d/l from P2P sites on a regular basis. Another thing that you MIGHT try, is to d/l the Firefox internet browser, they have a free version too and when I started to have a few issues with IE, I installed it and haven't had an internet problem since ... Install it and follow the intuitive interface.

You will want to update it , immunize the your system then check for problems. When it finds the problems fix problems.
