I'm thinking I probably should have put this in my journal instead. Oh well :-/

Great...now my ex is texting me telling me how sad he is and how he wishes he could have done things differently. I don't even know how to respond... or if I should just not respond.

Don't respond. What good could come of it? I'm sure you both regret some of your choices. There's no point in rehashing it now. This is the time to look forward not back.

Missy, I didn't say anything at first but he had to let out what he felt in his heart. He apologized once again for all the lies and the pain he caused. He also told me that he will always love me and thanked me for the wonderful years and for our child. That just made me cry. I told him I wish him the best and left it at that.

I think you did the right thing. I mean.. its been a year, the divorce is final, I don't know what kind of person he is, but he at least tried to show some remorse. If you would have ignored him, it would be you stooping down to his level in my opinion.

I think there are several people on this board who would love for their ex's to show some compassion and remorse for the crap they put us through.

I hope that his words brought you some peace and that you can look forward to the wonderful life ahead of you. This was a really hard day and you survived it. There are much brighter days ahead.

Mine is getting close, 8/5, and I'm looking forward to it and dreading it at the same time if that makes any sense. Moving on is a day by day challenge that I've had to accept. Maybe once it's final I'll be able to think with a clear head..

Thanks everyone! I probably would have been ok yesterday if my ex didn't take it so hard. He just wants me to forgive him for everything and get back together and he never stopped loving me. I tried explaining to him that I just could not forget everything he put me though. I also told him that his actions showed me differently. I reminded him about how he told me he was unhappy during our marriage (and counseling) and did not love me anymore. I told him I knew it was because he had feelings for his affair partner. He admitted that he did and he knows he messed up. He was hurt that I didn't call or text to check on him and see how he was doing. He wants me to be there for him and doesn't understand that I can't do that.

:( I'm so sorry you are so sad but you have made it so far! Congrats. You are going to be just fine without him.

I seriously hurt inside whenever I read any of your posts or journal entries. I feel like they are a flash into my future. Everything you say that your ex says sounds exactly like what I imagine my ex doing or saying in a year from now. What I wouldn't give to be where you are rather than in the midst of all this pain right now. I'm planning on filing in the coming week and it is killing me.
Your posts do give me hope though because while it is sad that he is so regretful now and he mourns your marriage and your family, you are still doing okay on your own. Your strength is an inspiration for me. :)

I to was the one that filed, but I remember that pain when I realized it was coming .

Mine came December 21st but I didn't collect the mail until January as I was away.

Thanks, milly. I'm sure I'll be okay without him because I've been able to move forward this past year without him. I do worry about him, though. Despite all the crap he put me though, I do not want him to suffer. I would like to see him learn from his mistakes and find happiness in the future. He's always been kinda stuck and could never move forward in life (I've always been more motivated to improve myself). I hate that he makes me feel guilty for not giving him a chance to change after our separation, although I gave him hundreds of chances before that. He makes me doubt my decision and I end up confused. I have to keep reminding myself why I left and recognize that he really won't change even if he wants to. Even if he did, things would never be the same.

I'm glad that my posts do give you hope. Although this is a difficult week for me, there are now more good days than bad. Hopefully this time of sadness will not last too long. We are both seeing our therapist today so hopefully that will help us both. Ironic thing is that we have the same therapist and his appt is right after mine.
