This will probably offend someone...but SOME divorce attorneys are like leaches. They get ahold of people during a really rough time in their life and they charge an arm and a leg during someone's misery. I have had stories of people loosing everything during the divorce just to pay for lawyer fees.
I made the decision really quick that I would take a little bit of a beating by working things out with the ex to save some money down the road by not having to pay an arm and a leg to an attorney. I think that I came out okay.
Think of it. These huge legal battles end up being a loss on both sides. Yeah, some things are right and wrong, but I would rather loose on some of my "Fairness" Principles and still have money then to win those principles and not get anything but the satisfaction of knowing that I won.

Why we may hide it - it's seen as unprofessional. Many attorneys think we should be dispassionate and aloof. Sorry, not me.
By the way, Wsfex - I bill $450 an hour, don't advertise and never lack for business. Of course, let's not talk about my overhead (rent, salaries, taxes, process serving, filing fees, copiers, fax, computer, business equipment, consultants, whatever).

I'm 20K into lawyer fees and trying to find work so my wife's lawyer can sue me for money I don't have.
I'm asking for a 60 day cooling off period. No turning back on the divorce, I'm just hoping we can make some headway with a mediator she is comfortable with, then go back to the lawyers to have it reviewed by both sides.
Is it possible to step back from the insanity?
Help! We are talking about years of rent, or our kid's college tuition here!
