I work a part-time job where for the last two years, I've been covering the shift of another co-worker for three days per week because it conflicted with her other part-time job. (Yes, we are all patching together part-time jobs here.) Anyway, I've been very happy for the extra money. Two weeks ago, the co-worker I've been covering for got a full-time job that pays more than all the part-time jobs she's currently working so she gave notice. My supervisor asked if I wanted to do both her shift and my own, which I can easily do and have been doing for two years with no problems, and I said yes. She said she'd have to run it past management first though so she couldn't promise me. Well, I just heard that management decided to put the open position out to the other employees in my department and the upshot is that someone else wanted it and there has been a re-organization. I completely understand their rationale in giving other people a shot at it and I think the re-organization will be good, but I'm sad that I'll be losing that extra money, especially at a time when I need it more than ever. I'm still waiting to hear from my attorney on when I am going to get my own car so that limits my ability to find another job right now. I'll figure it out, but I was kind of thinking I had the job so it's going to be an adjustment in my thinking.
