My husband of 28 years has decided that he no longer wants to be married. We met when I was 16 and he was 19 and had an amazing life together. We married when he was 22 and I was 19. We waited almost 5 years before having our son and another 4 years before having our daughter. We tried to plan everything. We bought a home before having our kids, had jobs, spent time together before rushing into parenthood, etc. Financially we were comfortable but things were always tight. He worked 7 days a week most of the time, I worked part-time while the kids were babies and full-time when they began school. The kids played sports and did excellent in school. We had an amazing family. My husband always felt as though I put the kids before him. I always did the absolute best that I could to be there for them all. My daughter began having a lot of unusual medical issues and unexplained injuries in her early teens. We began a long journey of doctors appointments and tests to eventually getting a diagnosis of Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. She could no longer play sports and very quickly her health declined to the point to where she could no longer walk. Her joints sublux and dislocate very easily, she has extensive GI issues, she has headaches and is in pain constantly. She is wheelchair dependent and is only 19 years old. She's an absolutely amazing woman. She's my hero and I couldn't be more proud to be her mom. She does as much as she can do for herself everyday and feels guilty for the burden that she's placed on us. I have to help her with most of her daily activities and can't leave her alone at home because our home isn't completely compatible for her wheelchair. With COVID, I am working from home and it has been a blessing. My son is 23 and has graduated college. He will be moving out of the house within a month or so and will be 2 hours away. My husband began working out of town a lot several years ago as well as continuing to work 7 days a week. I tried to support him and hoped this would give him a better opportunity for a better position with fewer hours and more time at home. We had very little time together alone. I couldn't really leave the house due to my caretaking and we were literally living different lives. He felt as though I wouldn't make time for him and I felt like he wouldn't understand that I couldn't figure out how. I have been 100 percent faithful to him throughout out entire relationship. He told me 3 years ago that he wanted a divorce. I begged him to stay, we tried counseling with a counselor that we didn't really like, and here we are again. I recently discovered that he has lied to me about going out of town for work when it was for something else, I received a text message from his phone number that wasn't for me, he said that he didn't send it and he has no idea how it came from his phone. He has had his check direct deposited into a separate account since he asked for a divorce 3 years ago and I don't have access to it but my check goes into our shared account that we had for 25 years that he has always had access to. I was removed from his cellphone plan 3 years ago and placed on a separate one because je said the discount with the employer didn't cover all four of our family members. He swears that he isn't and never has cheated on me. He said that he just wants peace because I haven't made him a priority and he can't trust that I will make him one now. I have offered to do anything to make this work and he said that he doesn't want to. He has been sleeping in the living room since the beginning of April. I told him that he will have to file for the divorce because he wants it and I can't bring my self to give up on something that I have given my whole life to. He wants to do mediation for our divorce and says that he wants to help my daughter and me. I'm so heart broken and lost. I don't know what to do or how to even begin to try to live without him.
I also was married once, to my high school sweet heart... we met young and dated for much longer than you before we got married. My marriage failed because I feel that we grew apart, we become so involved in our responsibilities, taking care of our kids, that we forgot to be a couple. We disconnected at some point in our marriage and started to become different people.
Sometimes we forget why we fell in love with that person we married... because we didn’t invest the time and effort in nurturing that relationship.
In your case, there may still be hope... try to regain his love by doing little things he likes... invite him out to dinner... just the two of you, invite him for a drink, show him the person he once fell in loved with. If you still love him and you honestly thing he may still have feelings for you.... it is worth to fight for your marriage.
I wish you the best of luck!
I really hope that once he spends some
Time on his own. He will realize what a wonderful woman you are and that you are the one who is there for him in the end.
I can’t imagine how much you are hurting.
Big hug
I don't imagine that trying to reason with him any further will help convince him to take up his duty as a loyal and faithful husband. And it's not fair or mature to keep you guessing what he wants, specifically by asking him questions. His final thoughts to you are for the security of you and your daughter, minus his presence at home.
Let me wrap this up by saying: when you don't know what a person's secret/hidden motivators are--when he seems to cover his deep needs and desires--you have to take power in your own hands. You can control the results you want. However, I would not count on finding the outcome you hope for. This is no form of true love; this is ego gratification by your husband. Think of you and your daughter's need first. Get a good female family lawyer and know your rights.
Best to you. God bless you and your daughter. She is a brave soul.
Best wishes to you; you sound like a wonderful person. Hang in there!
