I agree. I thought it was great. I was a big fan of McCain until this election. Sadly it has not brought out his best. He has always done a good job of working 'across the aisle'.

Ah hell...Maybe someday someone can actually run a clean campaign and just state their positions on the issues. I couldn't imagine running for office because you have no private life and you are always the target of mudslinging.

It looked like the election was about the campaign, not the candidate. for eaxmple, Karl Rove started several untrue rumours in 1999 South Carolina GOP primaries, including statements that McCain was mentally unbalanced due to his experiences in the Hanoi Hilton, that the child that he and Cindy had just adopted was a love-child from an illicit affair of his.
The McCain campaign used the 'Socialist' epithet to try to spook the electorate: meanwhile McCain himself appeared to be uncomfortable with that tack.
Perhaps McCain can now go back to being the man he was and not be the figure that a campaign wanted him to be.
