Myname - yes, it was a little different for me as we didn't have any children. Right now I am just exhausted, will likely take a few days to see how I feel. I also did a digital burn so to speak today... I deleted all our emails, text messages, photos and unfriended all of his family from FB. I just felt like these things were holding me back...I have got to heal and move forward!

After a short marriage, I burned about a hundred greeting cards with well wishes that my wedding guests had brought. I hosted a Halloween party so that a couple guests and I could burn our bad relationship stuff together in the fireplace.

I felt bad for my friends' sake--after all, I was burning nice things written by my friends, not by my ex--but did I need to drag around a giant bin of greeting cards with memories of a toxic relationship for the next 50 years? Nope. Indeed, in the four years since that burning, I've moved four times, and started and ended another relationship, so it's a good thing I haven't been dragging that bin around.

By the way, if you ever lose a legal document like a marriage or divorce certificate, you can request a new certified copy for about $20.

Tomorrow would have been our41st anniversary- maybe a good day to burn any mementos that are left. Very few left- I sold anything of any value as he is making my life a financial H***. Fighting over every penny and costing me way too much in lawyers fees. Hang in there everyone- together we are strong!

I burned 17yrs worth of love letters and cards. I started to read a couple and realized that it was only going to make me feel like crap. I needed to do this so I can continue to move on.

I would like to add...while this was extremely healing for me I don't believe it is for everyone. I did think about it for a solid week,and there were some factors in my decision. We don't have children, so no one to pass photos down to (something maybe to think about if you have kids). He started lying to me day one (not sure if I have mentioned this here or not but during the divorce process I found about two more wives and wife #4 reached out to me and when we began comparing timelines discovered he was still married to her {as in no mention of separation/divorce aka happily married} and I was actually the woman he left her for...I never knew this!! He told me he was single!) The 10 years I spent with him were filled with more lies than truth...so the ceremonial burning of things was healing for me!

Just don't want people torching things without thinking it through :)

I'm not that sentimental; therefore I don't save cards and letters--and there haven't been that many from our 12 year relationship anyway. I did have a bit of a trip down a pitiful memory lane when I was deleting texts and emails that I hadn't realized were still around.

The only thing I have left to get rid of is a lovely heart-shaped engagement ring...

Ginger, I am getting rid of the ring, and I think this week will do alittle purge, not like the movie :) hee hee, and get rid of any papers or pics that are just me and him with no kids. ALD, Im glad you got to eat your steak and potatoe, rid yourself of painful memories, and get to know the wife #4. I think that will be healing for you both. He really was a douche.
