this has been dragging on for 3 years now. Nothing but trouble, heartbreak, turmoil. I ve been going to therapy, reading self help books and watching therapy videos. Still I can’t bring myself to get him out of my life. Every time we try to separate, one of us reaches out, and every time the dynamic changes.

Idk how to make it happen.

I think there's a difference between "can't" and "don't want to". When your tired of being hurt, one will outweigh the other finally.

What is it that pulls you together? What is it you both are seeking? The answer may be different for both of you.

Comfort?

History?

Sameness?

Sex?

You have to answer why before you can decide if.

I know how this feels! I'm trying to walk away from an 11 year marriage for the same reasons. Every time it feels like one step forward, it's actually a giant leap backwards. Sending you strength!!

I wish I knew what it is. It is definitely not intellectual compatibility, we are not supporting each other financially, and now we are not having sex - going on 4 months, and no plans to do so.
The only thing I can think of is that we both had horrible mothers and somehow we fill each other’s void from childhood.

I stayed way too long. He was taunting me to leave him with his terrible disrespect for me, for years. Separate rooms for 3 years and so many tears before then and till the end. I was miserable. I finally woke up, told my family and moved on. No regrets. I’m sad, confused etc, but I’ll heal. Better alone than with him.

Breaking free from an unhappy relationship is no easy task, and it becomes harder if children are in the picture. Don’t let matters-of-the-heart stress you out. I know that is easier said than done. I suggest leaning on your friends and family for guidance and support. If you have a mentor or pastor, reach out to them. People like this can be a helping hand. Hang in there.
