Can shopping ruin a marriage?

One of the issues my wife and I had was the fact that she would go on a shopping spree everytime she got paid. I have worked two jobs for the past 15 years, just to make ends meet. Yet, when she would get her monthly paycheck, she would always feel the need to shop on the very day she received that check. Clothes, shoes, all items for her. My focus has always been on getting the bills paid. Fighting over money issues was one of the deal breakers. Was I wrong to be upset that went on these monthly shopping sprees? Is this just what women do? Should I have just accepted the fact that she works and has the right to go shopping if she so pleases? Help me understand, as I know that women like to shop.

Personally I was the worker bee too. I don't like shopping. My ex shopped for playing golf, baseball, hockey and looking after himself while I was working and looking after the kids. He sure looked after himself just fine. Runs in his family. I like to go in a pick it up, of course I still take the price tag into consideration. OK well as for shopping for other things, I like to look around... ha ha ha

No, not unreasonable at all. In this day, you have to set a budget and stay strictly to it. Too many unforseen expenses can pop up and you're never sure when the economy is going to sink further into the toilet. And if you have kids, any extra money should be going into the bank for them.

Shopping sprees are fine, but only when it is appropriate and only if money has been set aside for it.

A lot of couples fight over money and that is just one added stressor to a marriage.

I hate shopping of any kind! My stbx was the shopper but for mega items and put us in the poor house. I hated it,and now I live a very simple life. Just being able to pay my bills on time is a pleasure...no more shut off notices for me!!!!!
