Should it be okay for a significant other to flirt with people at his or her job? What would you consider crossing the line?

boundaries are set by what matters to you

No I don't think they should. I feel that's disrectful. My ex husband flirted with girls at work. In fact he told me he had feelings for his supervisor. Also said the girls at work make him happy while im holding our 4 day old daughther. If he spent that time and energy on me things would have been better.

I'm in the same boat right now. And they are even messaging when he gets home during the only couple hours we even have. It makes mefeel like the most unimportant woman in the world to him. But I can't control it. Plus he's divorced and its getting back anyways because he has emotional scars....I just try to not dwell on it and not be stressed because I have to protect myself because no one else will

I know this story all too well. My husband grew extremely close to a woman at work after her husband died over two years ago. I know there was flirting between them even before this but Anytime I'd ever bring it up he told me not to worry and that I was being ridiculous... they got So close that I was even babysitting her kids and she would call him at all hours of the day/night if she needed something. I got tired of it but at that point their affair had already begun...

The only thing that separates manslaughter from murder 1 are intentions and that's what really matters here. What are the intentions? And the only way you're figuring that out is by some honest conversation starting with the question, "Where does flirting all lead? Do you want to see other people?" Intention is everything here.

I suppose peoples' opinions may differ on this matter, but I will tell you this from my (divorced) standpoint: no one I am dating (or long-term-committed to, married to, etc) in any serious manner had better be flirting with anyone. If I find out about it, there will be a serious discussion and if it doesn't stop I'm out. To me that is very disrespectful of your partner. I've been there, done that, and never will again.

My ex husband also went out in the middle of the night. Flirting only leads to more in my experience. Shouldn't happen in any relationship. Saying hi on a professional basis is totally different. In my experience my ex husband wanted his space and he could do what he wants when he wants. But, when another guy looked at me he wanted to beat them up.

"Crossing the line" isn't that a huge question! I just read the messages above - flirting is just no good. Yes it can be harmless for some - but it makes the significant other feel insecure. I would say that if flirting is going on - it's time for a talk.

Flirting is for the single people. My stbx was always a big flirt. We fought about this very subject from time to time. She always said their was nothing wrong with it. Well it led to her having multiple affairs so in my opinion...yes it is wrong. 22 years together and you don't need to flirt with another man. Flirting to me is testing the waters. Grass isn't always greener.

i would hope he knows just how much it bothers you, and even if he thought it was harmless respected you enough to stop

No it is definitely not OK. Flirting is always including that, part of sexuall attraction. This is why it is different from friends ships.if you allow your significant one to flirt, you will always be reasonably upset. Who won't have? Flirting is not that innocent and frequently leafs to an affair. Well, on the one hand you can not control it. On the other, you do not want to be played off. Be brave, and sett the boundaries.
