Better is a relative term. My STBX and I will hopefully be done in April. We definitely get along better than we did for the last 2 yrs of our marriage and 16 post separation.

Once the bitterness settles and the fight is put aside it makes way for a new friendship, minus expectations and sexual hangups. Well, maybe there are some of those still present, but they definitely change.

Some people get remarried.

One of my best friends and her ex get along much better now than they ever did when they were married. They will both say that now. So I guess there's hope!

I was hopeful that a friendship would develop for the benefit for my son. But then I came to my senses. Viv is right. It is really good for the kids.

It is not as rare as you may think, quite a few people I know say they have got on better with their exes since their divorce.
My ex and I have definitely been a lot more civil to each other since the divorce than the awful fights that used to take place in the last few years of our marriage, we could seldom be civil back then.

Pressure is gone, why not? Call it a phase, hurt phase, nasty phase, solitude phase, might be in a different order, both still have to be on the same page of friendliness.

my guess is that both of you are feeling stress relief so are getting along much better. but, about six months after the divorce itself, it is not unusual for the bottom to fall out emotionally when the reality of the immense loss truly sets in.

surround yourself with very close friends and family, Rman. it will hurt like nothing you have ever hurt over before. the more humane you are, the deeper the pain so be prepared by having loved ones close by.

It sounds like you have both accepted that the relationship is truly over, and that its for the best, for the most part you have both had the closure you really truly need. I think there is a point where you both realize that being mean, and spiteful and acting like children doesn't solve anything, especially if you have children you both need to care for. It's a good thing. Being able to be civil with each other is a good thing, it will make everything a lot less stressful in the long run, and allow both of you to truly fully move on with your lives, and hopefully find love again with other people.

My ex and I are now on friendly terms. Heck, we spent 16 years as best of friends, hard to hate someone I trusted with my life.
