When I talked to her a few weeks ago about my own marriage, she said that her husband was angry, the marriage was a disaster, her son was in counseling, and her daughter just behaved compliantly to please her dad. Yet she won't get a divorce and continues to act to most of the world like everything is happy.
In my personal situation, we appeared to have it all together. Everyone thought we were the happy, perfect couple/family. And honestly, so did I. But apparently I was fooled and he had been wearing a mask for longer than I could have imagined.
the truth will set you free....
So it was a shock to people when they found out about the abuse. None of them had any clue what I had gone through for so long. If any of them had known just how bad the abuse was, they would have fallen over with a heart attack. One person said they couldn't imagine me putting up with that because I was a strong person.
Appearances can be very deceiving.
I was in big time denial about my marriage on how bad it really was especially in the beginning....
the truth will set you free, but it will hurt, but it will make you stronger in the end...
I think alot of marriages are in denial....sad, but a part of me is glad i was able to finally accept mine was over. That I deserve better and there is a light at the end of this crappy tunnel.
I've moved on - just couldn't do it anymore.

My ex was very much this way and no one ever knew that we had issues because she kept up a very nice public appearance. Most people had no idea what was lurking in the hidden depths when it came to my wife and many were surprised that she had a mean streak.
A lot of couples are probably that way. The thing is that you then begin to wonder what percentage of married couples are actually happy.
Sometimes I wonder about the whole idea of marriage. It is still appealing to me but at the same time you are taking one hell of a gamble on something with less than 50/50 odds. There are a lot of people out there that feel that it won't happen to them, I know that I did once.
The fact of the matter is that I would still be married to her had she not cheated regardless of her narcissism. The infidelity was the one thing that I couldn't accept so here I am.
That's all behind me now and I was never one to put up a false front so I believe that there are many happy couples out there. Their marriages will hum along until something triggers a "stress test".
- I kept my family in the dark for over a year, and only told them when I knew I was completely over my head.
I didn't want to tell them, because I didn't want to admit defeat, or have them think badly of her (we may work it out, so why even tell them).
Now she is gone, and my family are a huge help.
They only wonder why I didn't tell then sooner.
I will be thinking of you. And remind me not to pet your cat. lol
