Ironically I am staying at a house in the Florida keys to get away from the enviroment that constantly reminded me of my ex. This quote was on the refidgerator when I walked in.
"The longer I live , the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me is more important than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than apperarance, than giftedness, or skill. it will make or break a company (reminds me of Steve Jobs) a church, a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we embrace for that day. WE CANNOT CHANGE OUR PAST, WE CANNOT CHANGE THE FACT THAT PEOPLE ACT IN A CERTAIN WAY. We cannot change the inevitable. the only thing we can play is the one string we have... and that is out attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% of what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you. We are in charge of our ATTITUDES."

I want someplace new to start over and to make new memories. You are right. I cannot change the past. I cannot change what happened but I can create myself a new and better life, and that is exactly what I intend to do.
It's only been about 4 months of shoveling, but I already see and FEEL the huge change in confidence, strrength, fortitude that consistent small successes between fleeting small failures, can bring.
I couldn't have done this last year, or 5 years ago when the breakup occurred.
I have a lot of gratitude for that healing in attitude, that time, therapy and people who love me brought to my life.
Breakups, especially when you're still in love with your ex are horrendous things to endure. But endure them we do, and then, like after a desolate winter...the spring rains come again.

yes, i agree with everyone else, a thick skin and refusal to engage really helps a lot.
it's one of my favourite places
and most people there have that parrot-head attitude -- relaxed, creative, happy
maybe we should schedule a get-together there for everyone :)
I had to make a move with my family from another continent and as much as I did not want to make that move but had to for the sake of my kids, I decided to adopt the attitude that this was a great new adventure, and that we must enjoy exploring every possible aspect of it. My attitude started to affect my kids and so it has been a great success and they all made the most of the move.
The final ending of my horrible marriage, convinced me to develop the attitude that I was going to do everything in my power to make this a positive experience and to enjoy life with this new-found freedom and it is working. Life is amazing!!
So yes I go along with this quote!!
