Like so many here, I had nowhere to turn when my wife announced her desire to end our 20 year marriage. No words (at that point) could describe the pain and loss I felt in those early days, weeks, and months. The advice I found here saved my sanity. First day by day, and then week by week..
As I shared with many of the old timers here, my relationship with my ex was unusual in that we remained close and friendly. Our marriage didnt end to the cancer of infidelity, addiction, money problems, or any of the big marriage killers.
My wife simply blamed her unhappiness on our marriage and desire to be alone. What lurked in the shadows was the chemical imbalance that haunted her every month. She didnt simply suffer from PMS but an elevated form of PMDD (http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-... ).
Last spring she had a laparoscopic hysterectomy which restored her emotional state to a level that I havent witnessed since her 20s.
Fast forward.we started talking about what drove us apart and why those issues were not dealt with. We spent additional time together where old feelings seemed to spark.
Not being nave and immature, we decided to bring a professional into the picture and explore couples counseling before we went public with our decision to reconcile. Especially because we didnt want to damage further the emotional state of our 16 year old son. We continue to see this awesome counselor who has shown us how to be a stronger couple by being complete happy individuals.
This is where I feel guilty posting here. Fast forward even further we have moved her into my home. We are selling our marital home and have plans next spring to build a new home for our new beginning. Our son is thrilled. God has answered our prayers and it seems his plans are for us to join hands and walk though life together.
We will remarry on the beach on the 23rd of this month. New anniversary date for a new beginning.
I only share this because I want everyone to see that every outcome is different because Gods plan for each of us is different.
The only consistent Ive witnessed here on DS the last couple of years is the answers people find in their faith. So keep the faith.
