Well guys, if things go well on Friday, I will be hanging up my guns and getting out of law enforcement. I look at this change with some happiness and some sadness.
In all truthfulness, there were some parts of the job that I loved. I loved putting foot to butt. I loved making a difference and helping people. I also loved getting work with some of the people that I have worked with.
I will not miss the mid-night shifts. I will not miss the people Monday morning quarterbacking my every decision and I will not miss the micromanagement that I experienced. I will not miss working every holiday and changing around my life to fit the department's needs.
The thing that I will miss the most is the amount of time that I had off. I worked 13 days a month and I would take off 3 weeks every summer to go out and cruse my boat.
I think in the end this might be a good change for a while. Let's just hope that I do get this new job. I am tired of seeing horrible human tragities and I am jaded from my years on the road. I feel like an old gunfighter hanging up his guns.
