Just broke up with someone or in the midst of a difficult divorce? Breaking up is difficult no matter what the circumstances are. They say that time heals all wounds, but sometimes a listening ear or a hug can work wonders for the heart. Whether you need a place to vent, someone to hold you to No Contact, or need advice about what to do, we're here to help.
Look...Some people will probably grill me for this one but I am putting this out there. There is a reason I will say this and it makes sense if you are in this kind of situation.
A lot of people on here have to worry about their safety. Some people have guns in the home for home defense and self defense. Law Enforcement officers don't mind when people have a gun in a house but this is information that should be disclosed early on if they are responding to your house. It is actually a good idea to have the right protection should an intruder enter your dwelling with the idea of doing harm to you or your family.
I believe that having a gun in the home is a good idea if the proper precautions are taken. Here are some suggestions!
1. Safety is paramount. Have your weapon secured in the proper place. If you have spent the money to have this gun then spend a little bit more money to buy a safe for it. Get a safe that is quick access and uses your hand print to gain access. Keep this safe in a place where it is quick to get to if you need it. Remember, having a firearm in a home where kids can gain access to it and you take no precautions is a crime in some states.
2. Safety again........If there are kids in the home then you should educate them about firearms. Teach them to notify you or an adult if they see a gun in a house that isn't secure. Let them know that it is dangerous. If they are old enough, have them shoot it so they know what it can do and how dangerous it really is. LOCK YOUR GUN UP in a safe as mentioned in #1.
3. Stay proficient. Police officers practice twice a year with a firearm. This is not enough practice. Shoot once ever few months and make sure that you are hitting what you are aiming at. Remember, once a bullet leaves your gun it has your name attached to it wither it does bad or good. Know how to function this weapon in low light conditions also.

seriously... I agree. I have a friend that has a few guns in his home (From the States) and he is very safe with them all.

Some people thought I was nuts for asking until they read about a local kid who shot his friends foot because they were playing with the mothers gun.
Guns are fine as long as you understand they are dangerous to people who don't have the knowledge.
If you buy a gun for home or personal safety, why would you lock it up in a safe? Do you think an intruder is going to say "ah, the poor stiff has his gun locked up in the safe, I'll give him a few minutes to get it out and load it up with bullets"?
That kind of defeats the purpose of having it doesn't it?
I do own a couple of guns but I have no ammo for them. They were for hunting and not safety. When I had ammo I always stored the ammo in a safe place away from the guns.

There are no kids in my home so my guns aren't as secure. If there are kids in the home I secure them.
For those of you who are afraid of guns or don't want them in the home because of some fear that someone could get hurt by them think of the other factor that isn't widely published. The fact that a criminal is hesitant to go into a home when someone is in there and the criminal believes that they are armed. How many times have people produced firearms and warded off an attack that could have cost them their lives.
If you don't want to have a gun in your home it is your choice, but don't knock myself and others who do when we have taken the proper precautions and we know what we are doing. We are far from stupid, we are informed.
Just scares me when the rightful gun owners go berserk and kill innocent people.
Or - the stupid laws that say the criminals have rights and you have to basically read them their rights before shooting them:
