I had a 170 lb. Neapolitan Mastiff. LOVED HER to death. I SOBBED the day the I came downstairs and found that she had died in her sleep.

The dog was huge, and she loved us and we loved her. I trusted her. I don't believe in her RIGHT mind, she would have meant to hurt us, BUT...I was very aware of the capacity she had to do a heck of a lot of damage if she was set off. I was very concious of her "moods", even when I'd be on the floor with my head on her back. relaxing.
When I don't trust, I no longer feel comfortable sharing my deepest personal thoughts and feelings. How can I have a close, intimate relationship with someone after I realize there were years of betrayal, manipulation, and lies.
I find myself feeling much like ChiTownBear. The love starts to fade because I start distancing myself. There are still feelings there, but I don't think it is love.
I think I'd be better off holding some parts of me close to my chest from now on. I am seriously questioning the validity or value of opening up COMPLETELY. I'm thinking that's selfish.
