Irony, today.
I had to iron out some paperwork today which resulted in a visit to my old "home". I haven't been through the gates of the military installation I lived upon while married, in almost 2 years. I have several friends who still live there, and zero desire to pass through those gates again.
Looking at my phone, I realized today's date. It was 7 years ago today that I left it all behind.
Fists of rage
My home and all of it's contents
A sick, broken man
My family and friends
My Federal job
I left behind the old me....the one who allowed herself to be treated horribly.
I left my comfort zone. An UNcomfortable comfort zone.
7 years is a long time. My life is not perfect. I'm not remarried, or crazy in love. I didn't flip a switch and magically wake up in a fairy tale.
I've worked my ass off to get to where I am. I earn an honest living, I do my best, my absolute best...to raise my son completely on my own. I've learned to take better care of myself too. I'm unrecognizable to people I knew 7 years ago and down to a size 8/10.
Nope, life isn't perfect. But it's waaaayyyyyy better. And I thought I wouldn't survive at one point.
My message?
Don't let ANYONE treat you terribly or put their hands on you.
Believe in heroes.... Be your OWN hero!
Life goes on.
Don't measure your self worth by being in a "relationship"
And the list goes on...
Take good care of yourselves first!

Next week will mark 6 years since my divorce, that really has been never ending.
I too am in a better place, but I still have a long journey ahead of me. Thanks for the reminder.

7 years since I said no more, 4 years divorced.
I used to wake up every morning with him hovering above me saying " Youre the last thing I want to wake up to. Don't look at me...I don't want to see your ugly face. Don't talk to me..I f'king hate you!"
Life is peaceful for the most part, although I'm still recovering.
It ends when you want it to..the pain, the grief, the craziness, the self doubt.
There's life waiting for you...
