Traumatic brain injury occurs when a sudden trauma causes brain damage. TBI can result from a closed head injury or a penetrating head injury. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain. Outcome can be anything from complete recovery to permanent disability or death. A coma can also affect a child's brain.

Have any of you had a soreness rise up were the head injury occurred? My head will get tender under the hair. I will notice it when i brush my hair over the area where the surgery occurred. When this happens I will not feel well either. I find if i rest instead of trying to take the world back on that i do better. I suspect healing is going on.

My vision is getting better. I played half of twinkle twinkle little star on my flute today. It was all I was physically able to do. I rest a bit and then I painted. I sumi'e painted shades of green grass and bamboo this morning. I am working on a couple of sketches of snails and dogwood blossoms.

Yes! I was tender headed before my TBI, but am more so now. Might have something to do with the three brain surgeries, huh? (wink) j/k After my first surgery my head was VERY sore. My question-mark shaped scar starts behind my left ear, goes over my skull to the middle of my head, and down towards the back of my head almost to my neck. So, the neurosurgeon cut my head open kinda like an egg (oddly shaped egg). If you want more info on the surgery and why message me--long story. After the 100+ staples came out and the healing began, the scar itched like crazy!!! My parents had a heck of a time keeping my hands off my head (or so I'm told). The itching went away eventually, but the nervous touching remained. I still mess with my scar when I'm irritated. Anyway, when I brush my hair the scar hurts. I can only go to one hair stylist, because so many are rough with scalps. I've told them about my head, shown them, explained about the pain, but they get talking and forget. Its been 5 years since my TBI and my scar/scalp is still sensitive. When brain surgery occurs the nerves are cut. The neurosurgeons try to put everything back together the best they can, but its not a perfect science. Hence the sensitive or sore head, I'd bet. I'd suggest a soft bristle hairbrush and brush very softly. When you wash your hair in the shower try to be careful too. If your surgery is fairly new, you're still healing. Give it time! Also, try to find hair products (shampoo, conditioner, hair gel) that is alcohol-free. Alcohol dries out your hair and can irritate the scalp. Hope these suggestions help!

P.S. With your vision, make sure to see an Ophthalmologist who specializes in TBIs 1 year after your TBI. Blows to the head can damage or change vision. Same with hearing, sense of smell & taste. The doctors recommend you have your eyes and hearing (ears) testing no more than a year after a TBI. Best of luck! =)

I have been very sick this week; too much pain from cramps. But despite the pain and with the help of pain meds I did paint some sumie irises and a horse.
