Brain Injury Support Group
Traumatic brain injury occurs when a sudden trauma causes brain damage. TBI can result from a closed head injury or a penetrating head injury. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain. Outcome can be anything from complete recovery to permanent disability or death. A coma can also affect a child's brain.
What a precious idea, to be treasured. And bringing things back to mind for you.
This is the best thing you can do for both your daughter and grandbaby. You may have started a very nice and healthy tradition!
Good job and I am so happy your memories are flooding back!
Great job Grandma!
Maybe your project will help your memory! Either way I think it is a great idea and P will enjoy reading it later in her life. Way to go!!!
When I say I am remembering the kids' past, I"m not talking about suddenly remembering all of their elementary school years. Those are gone. For a time ( from last July to January 2014 ) I was coming off a seizure med, and that was triggering more memories. I"ve had to go back on it , but memories are still coming. I don't know if this simply means the klonopin hasn't reached a therapeutic dose, or if I will be able to remember more. Time will tell. In the meanwhile I'm just writing memories as they come, whether they make sense or not. I"m calling them 'popcorn" memories because some of them just pop up for no reason.
I have a question ( if it's not too personal) - is your thyroid okay? Mine was ruined in the car accident ( 2nd tbi) , and it took years for it to be diagnosed. During those years when we didn't know it was hurt, I couldn't think well at all and was confused all the time. I had blood tests all the time that came back normal until my GP decided to test my tsh level "for the fun of it "- hypothyroid disease reared its ugly head. I immediately started medication, and within 3 weeks was a different person. I ask only because sometimes there are physical reasons ( other than our brain) for being confused and forgetful.
Thank you all for your encouragement to keep this journal. At times I wonder if it will be appreciated or even looked at I only know that the handwritten letters from my father ( one when I turned 21, and a couple when I thought I was in love - very wise letters ) are treasures, especially now that he's gone . We shall see what happens with the journal...
