Traumatic brain injury occurs when a sudden trauma causes brain damage. TBI can result from a closed head injury or a penetrating head injury. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain. Outcome can be anything from complete recovery to permanent disability or death. A coma can also affect a child's brain.

MEG scan?

Has anyone here had an MEG brain scan? I recently had one. It showed much more then my other scans showed.

Is it a more complex version of an MRI? One of my Docs was telling me about something like this.

It is. My MRI didnt show damage, it only shows structural or active damage (bleeding etc..)
The MEG shows slow activity and areas that arent working properly.
My MEG showed damage to 8 areas that were very consistent with the problems Ive been experiencing. It all makes sense to me know.
They are beginning to do a lot of research with these machines because so many soldiers are coming home with TBI and this machine shows so much. There is a good video on you tube, I will try and post the link.

This video on YouTube gives a lot of information. I think we will be hearing a lot more about TBI in the future because of what the video talks about.

Havent heard of this. Sounds like it will be very good for many. Wonder if they could use it on coma patients after a few weeks if needed?

I saw last week that this machine shows response in coma patents that other machines have not been able to show.

Thanks for sharing this Melanie. I think this is a wonderful tool that can be used in the diagnosis and treatment of TBI. I sure wish I had known about it when my injury accured.

I wonder if it would show the areas of damage that still rule my life these days, and if anything could be done for those emotional areas of the brain that seem to be beyond repair for us following?
