Brain Injury Support Group
Traumatic brain injury occurs when a sudden trauma causes brain damage. TBI can result from a closed head injury or a penetrating head injury. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain. Outcome can be anything from complete recovery to permanent disability or death. A coma can also affect a child's brain.
((hugs))
Just trying to get through these difficult days. Its been 5 months today. Each day is a struggle and a new experience. Our lives change so much with a brain injury, I hardly recognize the life I had before. You have all helped me so much with your advice, so much more information than doctors have given me. Thank you!
A friend said he would drop over to me before i left but its getting late now hope he still comes. He is supposed to give me something back. Its no big deal if he doesn't we can rearrange to meet up another day but it bugs me when people don't stick to plans. That's how i work now I need things to be routine. Oh well guess its hard for others to understand that especially when they are Irish and so laid back, how i used to be once upon a time
How have you been doing?
Good thread...we should all check in with another like this to see what's up.
How are you Elainie???
So, 2 years (omg it seems like yesterday) after my daughter Michelle was hit by a car she is walking with barely a limp, driving and taking one class in college. She struggles with the class but fortunately she is registered with the office of disability and she gets extra time to turn in her work. She tries to get jobs here and there. Shes been organizing this ladys house and office. She can't do jobs like she used to that require multiple tasks. She is really into hula hooping which may seem random but she is really good at it, not just doing it around her hips. And she is in very good physical shape. She makes hula hoops out of pvc pipe and bright colored tape and they are nice. She has sold a couple. She has really worked hard at getting back into her life and she gets out there, bless her heart, and never complains. I still have phone ptsd thoughlol.well not funny but it sounds funny. In the two years since she was hit by the car, 3 other things happened to her which landed her in the emergency room and I was the one to get the calls from her. So every time I see her number on my phone, my heart falls to my feet and I say a little pray. One blessing is that she got a settlement from the guys insurance company who hit her (but she still likes to find little jobs to do). I wasnt a million bucks, but it is definitely a good amount to help her for years. Sorry for the long response but I hadnt given an update in a while! I always think of the people Ive met on here and my heart and soul always hopes the best for them.
I just wanted to start this thread, because it seems like people do stop by here, but if they don't have anything to add on a thread, we don't hear anything. I have another board I'm on for a hobby I have and we talk every day, pretty much.
Me...I'm doing good. Worked through some of my anger so that helps emotionally. The Acupuncture seems to be helping the pain some, so I am also grateful for that.
But, of course, I do still think about my injuries way too much. But I'm moving forward - one step at a time and that's all that counts.
:)
Memory is horrible, and my time management/motivation is really really bad. I'm also having headaches at night again. No one knows what causes these, even my nuero has been stumped. Incredibly painful and they wake me up at night. I describe them similar to when you hold your breath to long when swimming then come up gasping for air and get a major pounding headache.
I need to go back to my neuro once I'm done with finals, hopefully I can sort some things out. Last MRI just showed the small piece of bone missing where my first injury happened. Everything else was clear. Total mystery.
I'm looking forward to starting college in the fall, it will be my 6th semester. First I need a summer though. Just wrapping up this semester now, totally stressed out, want to be done ASAP. By Friday I will be free, YAY!!
Glad to hear everyone is managing well.
Do you have vision damage from either of your brain injuries? That might be what's causing the headaches, particularly in light of you being in school.
I went back to school this term and I'm finding certain things are acting up - my neck, my eyes, my energy.
This might be worth looking into.
