Traumatic brain injury occurs when a sudden trauma causes brain damage. TBI can result from a closed head injury or a penetrating head injury. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain. Outcome can be anything from complete recovery to permanent disability or death. A coma can also affect a child's brain.

I don't have this so pronounced, but I do inappropriately laugh. It's something I can't control. It may be something really sad, or hurtful to another person. I don't know why I laugh, because that's not how I really feel inside. It's quite disturbing, but it's something I have little control over. It doesn't happen that often, but often enough. My emotions have been greatly altered by my injury. My brain was injured in so many different areas. The damage was just widespread. Another emotion that I lost was my ability to cry. I just can't cry. I do get the emotion that is painful, and I may cry, but it is a silent cry. Tears just won't come.

Thanks for letting me know...I'm not crazy! I've gone pretty close to full circle with the emotions and their appearance it seems is rarely accurate of how I'm really feeling.

I've had a feeling it was due to the injuries...but never have found anything in research that linked it so certainly as this.

I'd almost rather be "blank" and have people ask why I'm mad than to laugh or cry for no explainable reason. Hard to explain when you don't really know yourself. This might help me a bit more to come to terms with it myself.

After my TBI - I haven't been able to cry, I don't know if there is a medical reason for this or not, but after 9 years, I have yet to grieve the loss of my brother in our MVC.
