Brain Injury Support Group
Traumatic brain injury occurs when a sudden trauma causes brain damage. TBI can result from a closed head injury or a penetrating head injury. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain. Outcome can be anything from complete recovery to permanent disability or death. A coma can also affect a child's brain.
here you will find many thing to help you and your boyfriend in dealing with his injuries and over coming many Itakes the brain a while to heal. my son had such a brain injuries of the frontal lobe and he is very different than before. he is moody, grochy. He argues alot and he is usually wrong about what he argues about. he think he know something but in reality he doe snot know he remembers it all wrong like his accident he has no real memory of He has a make believe fantasy memory of his accident and it is very hard to make him understand that what he think happened did not happen the way he thinks.. He get angry and thinks we are lieing to him . He is much harder on his two teen age sons . and he put them down, telling them they are stupid are retarded.. ITs is very hard on them.. He was their hero before the accident. It is very hard for them to see that good man now. He is so very different. but they know it is his brain injury talking not the dad they knew they have to learn as we all do to be very forgivig and supportive oh their dad it is not his fault.
My husband is getting better though, more able to control this or at least will acknowledge that he does it.
It sounds like your boyfriend has a fairly recent injury. I would give him some time. Also, I find that if I hug my hubby or make a joke or get him into a different environment ( reset him somehow) it does help. But sometimes he is just irritable.
Also, it may be that he is tired or doesn't feel well. He may realize it or be able to voice it exactly. If you can encourage him to have a "time out" or do something that he enjoys, it will help.
I appreciate you taking the time to share some of what you are experiencing with me. In 1967 I was in a motor vehicle accident with my family. At the time of the accident, I was sitting behind my father who was driving. Upon our Volkswagen Beetle being hit by a woman driving a Cadillac. Upon impact, I was thrown forward over my dad's bucket seat and I hit the windshield. I fractured my left femur -- thigh bone -- and I sustained an open skull fracture when I hit the windshield.
Per my injuries, I remained in a coma for 3 weeks with right frontal lobe damage, a severe brain contusion with brain stem in involvement. I also remained in traction for 6-7 weeks to set my fractured left femur. I remember that when I awoke from the coma I thought I had been in a bad dream and when I felt the right side of my forehead I found that my forehead / skull was depressed like a shallow bowl.
