Traumatic brain injury occurs when a sudden trauma causes brain damage. TBI can result from a closed head injury or a penetrating head injury. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain. Outcome can be anything from complete recovery to permanent disability or death. A coma can also affect a child's brain.
Pain effect each of us in different ways but bottom line is slows us down and lesson the quality of life we hope for.
For me I can ignore the pain when it is under a 3 on a pain scale of 0 to 10. Ten being the worst pain.
The pain effects me by making me feel physical weak and if the pain is really bad and persistent than it triggers anxiety.
I am concerned about becoming dependent on pain meds; so far I don't think i am. If i am not hurting i do not take meds. And I have gone days to weeks without taking pain meds. I am hoping to get back into only having to take them during that time of the month; though i really wish that mess would heal up or dry up.
I get cranky if the pain is over a 5.
What has worked to deal with the pain, Pain meds such as Naproxen, is a good anti inflametory but it does not knock out the serious pain. Hyoscyamine helps cool my colon spasms. I have just started taking tramadol 50 mg time released; it is wonderful!!! It made me quizzy at first and I had lay still after i took it but i have gotten use to it and it works great. I love that the tramodal is time released; it really makes a difference in pain control.
I have had meprozine It is just the cats meow; but the drs will not give it to me on a regular bases.
I have also had success with biofeedback. I talk to where the pain is hurting and talk/meditate about relaxing. Sometime the pain makes us tense up and that makes it worse. But it is really hard to relax and think about biofeedback when the pain is screaming.
The pain makes my memory worse. It is hard to think about things or register what is going on when I hurt so much. And then when the pain finally dissipates there is just the exhaustion of having been through so much pain. And then I am overwhelmed by all the life that passed me by and all the stuff that piled up.
Over all my pain issues are much less and I am doing better. I am half better than I was two years ago. It is a long way to better. But we will get there! I am going to find a way to be better.

I hope you get to where you would like to be reguarding the pain and the affects the med`s have on you.I know that even today that I still have pain from the brain injury and all the other problems that happened to me in the accdent in 1992.I have been through a lot of med`s and after awhile I decided that the pain in my head and back is managable.I say managable but my pain has gotten to the point that I had to ask my GP for some pain med`s the other day because I am tired of living with the pain level that stay`s at about a 7 on a scale of 1-10.I have lived this way for so long I don`t know what it is like anymore to not have pain in one way or another.I did have to ask if I could get some med`s that don`t have codine in them because it triggers migraines in me.She did give me some but I don`t think she understands what kind of pain I have on a daily basis.She gave me Naproxen @ 500mg twice daily.I was having to take Advil 800mg 3 times a day and still in pain.For a long time I have taken nothing but the pain was something that I had to live with and after a while I would have to break down and take something.[I hate taking med`s they make me feel like I am walking in a fog]For my migraines I have to take Imitrex injections[it is the only thing that works for me].I have tried many different types of med`s for them but nothing seams to work except the Imitrex,don`t know why and I hate the side affects but it is better than having the migraine.
