Traumatic brain injury occurs when a sudden trauma causes brain damage. TBI can result from a closed head injury or a penetrating head injury. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain. Outcome can be anything from complete recovery to permanent disability or death. A coma can also affect a child's brain.

Getting There Is Half The Fun

So, I went into the Pharmacy the other day. I had just spoken with the woman ten minutes before and she had told me her name. When I got there I asked to use the bathroom before we conducted our bussiness. Already I had forgotten her name. So while I'm in there I'm thinking:
"Crystal, yeah That's it! Crystal Chandalier. No, no, that was the waitress at Lone Star Steak house. But it has something to do with gems. Gems, yeah, that's it. Her name has somehting to do with gems...
Ruby? Emerald? No, no. Not gems; jewelry. Yeah somekind of jewelry. No, not jewelry. Jewel! Her name is Jewel! See, Jenn? I knew you'd get there!"
I was so proud of myself by the time I walked out there and got my meds and no noe ever knew. LOL

That is wonderful!! That is exactly what they are working with my bf with in speech therapy...to make connections with words to help him remember. His short term memory is nearly absent, but this is helping.
Also helping is "visualizing"...for instance, you could picture a treasure chest full of gems. I guess sometimes the trouble might be not knowing which detail you are going to remember or forget and it can get hairy. Thats great tho! CONGRATS!!

Thank you. Yes, this kind of therapy does help. But it also helps to be able to laugh at yourself once in awhile!

Enjoyed that story.. I know that feeling. I once ran into someone i knew but hadn't seen in awhile. I couldn't remember her name. I stepped outside, concentrated really hard and I swear to you, i felt it come across my brain like some chemical messenger... it was weird, but after that feeling her name was available to me. I've never really 'felt' it again like I did that one day. It was so weird.
