Before the injury: Bowling, shooting pool, swimming, BBQing, drinking, playing video games, watching TV, spending time with my girlfriend, karaoke, gambling.

Now: I'm so screwed up all the time...its really hard to do anything. I enjoy spending time with my son and watching him grow up. I like to go for walks. I like to lay in bed and talk with my girlfriend about random things. Making my son laugh. Making my girlfriend smile. There's really not much I can do yet...I want to be able to watch TV and play video games...but it just shuts me down.

I try to get out and hope to meet some better people at some point. I'm quite lonely for people who really know me. know many who are of the social variety but yeah not many who really know me. I do yoga once a week and volunteer in two places so I am quite busy most of the time really which I think is for the best

I found that I was making myself crazy with the things I couldn't do. I kept on trying to do more at the gym but -wham- kept on getting slammed down with pain.

So I finally realized I had to do something else to keep myself from going bonkers. So I decided to make bookmarks. And I do stuff around the house.

And I just went back to school, starting yesterday. That's going to take up a lot of my time.

In recent months, my husband and I have tried dancing again. The amazing thing is that, I could dance just like before. I often have head and neck pain afterwards that knocks me out for days. But I still am so happy that one thing in my life - my dancing abilities - is still there!

Ummm...my other hobby is hanging out on the internet! LOL

PS, FMW, when you mentioned BBQing, you made me hungry!

I could go for some BBQ chicken right now!

Elaine you so have the right idea. good on you. at some point we have to accept that we have some limitations now and find new things that we can do to entertain ourselves and yeah every now and again we find out that some things are still ok like your dancing. Good for you Elaine great attitude

Elaine well done, trying back to school. Dont overwhelm yourself with to much, enjoy what you can. Huge step for you. Let us know how you go.
I lost a lot mentally ability ways with memory after first tbi, then a top surgeon who operates on our Olympians had a bad day, and that took my walking etc and left me disabled, second tbi did more damage and wrecked my balance and other things. I have finished reading a book recently, havent been able to do that for two years. But I have a firm belief another door always opens, and learnt hand emb, we meet each week. At present were involved in the project for making a convict bonnet as a memorial for the women whose names are listed and go on side brim of hat. They, over 25 thousand of them, then go on a tour, and into a museum. many woman involved in this over three years so far. I think you have to be content with what we can now do, and look for open doors.

I don't have nearly enough free time but when I do I spend as much time as possible with my yellow lab, Reggie. He is a wonderful comfort to me and has helped me through so many difficult times. We take many long walks through the woods, he loves to play frisbee, and he loves to swim in the river. It's a joy to see a big doggie smile on his face :)
