Brain Injury Support Group
Traumatic brain injury occurs when a sudden trauma causes brain damage. TBI can result from a closed head injury or a penetrating head injury. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain. Outcome can be anything from complete recovery to permanent disability or death. A coma can also affect a child's brain.
I wonder if anyone has as much trouble as I do with change.
We have a house built in 1916. There is a double parlor on the first floor; a dining room ( we don't use it for that ) and a living room. There is also a small study on this floor.
My husband thinks it's a great idea for him to move his office into the front room ( living room ) , and to move the L room stuff into the other room ( dining ).
Logically it makes sense. He needs more room and light, etc., and I"ll fit into the smaller room fine. However the thought of moving really upsets me ; I feel like "my world" is changing. "We have to move the china cabinet, and piano to other rooms; where will the children's pictures go?" and on and on.
I remember a few years ago after a fresh tbi he wanted to simply move my desk to another place in the same room. I accused him of "ruining my world".
I'm not that bad now, but change still bothers me.. Does it bother anyone else? -Holly

A few people on here know I have been going CRAZY this past year. My husband and I bought a fixer last year. Well, I was seriously dragging my feet kicking & screaming. We have done 2 prior remodels, which I loved to do. But that was pre-TBI!
With a TBI that was barely 2 years out, I did NOT want to do a house remodel. I tell you, I have gone nuts the last year as the renovation has had boxes of things moved from room to room. It has driven me mad. I never know where anything is and I'm constantly losing things.
I am so thankful that my office got finished a few weeks ago. I think I will finally stop losing most things!
So, now you can understand why I'm laughing - it's in pure camradarie. Having a TBI, it's SUPER hard to have things moved around. I think it's probably hard for people who don't have a brain injury to understand the stress this puts on us.
Pre-TBI, I was the type of person who loved change, and I didn't understand people who didn't! Now, I want familiarity!
But last couple of days I have been looking at colour of inside walls, and thinking time for a change of colour, but not furniture. Havent told him my thoughts yet. Is that normal, changing colour is ok as long as light colour, cant handle brights except as a cushion or such, but furniture or other things really throws me into a state?

When we moved last year, I was somewhat panicked thinking of having to go shop at different stores.
I wonder also , if I don't like the furniture changing because I have a poor sense of direction. I waste gas because I go routes I know , even though there are shorter ones. My house (11 rooms) is one I can get lost in! When I have a minor seizure, I always look in the next room to make sure the fireplace is where it's supposed to be so I can orient myself , even though I just sit on the couch when I have the seizure.
Well he's announced that this is the weekend that "the change" will happen . I think the other "change in life"" was easier to accept than this one wil be. -Holly
