Brain Injury Support Group
Traumatic brain injury occurs when a sudden trauma causes brain damage. TBI can result from a closed head injury or a penetrating head injury. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain. Outcome can be anything from complete recovery to permanent disability or death. A coma can also affect a child's brain.

I don't believe I have that problem but my sense of balance seems to have been affected by my brain injury.

Ted, I have balance problems too. I was a speed skater in college, so thought I"d try roller blading - seemed to be the same thing as ice skating. I tried, and couldn't stand on them. I finally asked a friend to help me . She happened to be studying for her PhD in physical therapy, and after falling several times with me, declared 'you have no vestibular system". In other words, no balance. She gave me some exercises to help, but I still can't stand on skates ,
Johanna said one of the things I had to do ( my mother said the same thing to me !) was , when I stand from a chair, stop and get balanced before walking . I always stand up with one foot ahead of the other ready to take the first step . I also walked too fast and didn't pay enough attention to the ground and the bumps on it. ( I once was walking so quickly that I fell over a curb I didn't notice) . So I"ve slowed down, but still have to be careful .
I was born with ataxic cerebral palsy.
I am having trouble sleeping, and was doing a google search and happen to stumble a form of ataxia called Spinocerebellar ataxia, Apparently gets worse over time.
Unlike cerebral palsy, by itself.........Which does not worsen over time, so I have read anyway.
