Traumatic brain injury occurs when a sudden trauma causes brain damage. TBI can result from a closed head injury or a penetrating head injury. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain. Outcome can be anything from complete recovery to permanent disability or death. A coma can also affect a child's brain.
ok just kinda needing to vent a little sorry. Ive been trying to find a volenteer job,but that doesnt seem to b working. Its pretty bad when people wont take work from someone they dont have to pay right. Maybe its just where Im looking (heath field). So I go to the place that I worked before the acciend, just to ask there advice boy was I wrong...Was thinking school for nursing or such wanted to work with people that got TBIs. What a fool I am for going there. the head nurse who didnt even know what a TBI was. Told me to quit milking the system and get back to work. Before the acciend I would have given her a piece of my mind, but it truly caught me so off gaurd that it just was like a slap to the face. I truly am a person that cant stand people milking the system, one of the reasons Im trying to find work and get in school. I feel useless and so not like a man. Because of all this I have my life on hold and friends kept at arms lenght. They all think Im old schooling it, not dateing or going out.I know I should just get over it and I will in time, but damn it I really want to go and say really bad things to her...
I have, and I bet others here have had hurtful things said to them by unsensitive people...ignorant about TBI. You know we understand here....it's the only place where I have found understanding, with no judgement.
Don't you give up looking, someone or some organization needs you. I volunteered at a small animal shelter near me, I don't know if that interests you or not, but the unconditional love I got from helping animals helped me so much I'll never ever forget it. I too felt low self esteem when I couldn't even use a computer, I went to the library, asked for help and got the snarky words and looks, since my injury wasn't visible outwardly, so I stopped going there.
Red, I wonder if the Brain Injury Assoc. in your state might have volunteer options for you? Just a thought. Big Hugs to you for trying to help others!!
