Traumatic brain injury occurs when a sudden trauma causes brain damage. TBI can result from a closed head injury or a penetrating head injury. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain. Outcome can be anything from complete recovery to permanent disability or death. A coma can also affect a child's brain.

Has anyone tried or is currently taking Cymbalta?

They may try me on this med for the severe nerve pain I have on my head.

I'm wondering about side effects.

I was on it. This is what sent me into an even more severe depression. You know what I mean... It didn't help my pain at all.

I think its kinda the cheapest depression pill out there, which explains all the anti posts. I'm on the 3x a day Venaphlexine (sp.?) Its workin' great! Good luck!

There really is'nt any meds. to help with TBI per say. However, there are meds, that can help with the symptoms of TBI. Everyone's brain injury does effect their brains in a different way. I have a lot of other disorders I take meds,. for, so I am not sure excactly which one helps me with what. However, Zoloft has really helped me the most, I feel. I also have agraphobia. And I could not leave my house for 6 months. When I got the help I needed, and was given Zoloft, this was such a blessing for me. I went back to my classes at college and I finished with a 8.75 grade adverge!

Elaine, give it a try and see how it goes. You suffer far too much. just because it hasn't worked for others does not mean it will not work for you. Give it a try if it really doesn't work, come of it but I'll keep my fingers crossed that is does help to give you some relief

Yes Elanie, try the med, but be aware of your mood throughout. You having that knowledge of what to watch for will be to your benefit.

No brain injury is the same, and no medication will work the same for the next person. What works for you may not work for me, and vise a versa. Nerve pain is the worst pain of all. I hope you can find some relief.

Been on Cymbalta for three years. I do not know if it helped with pain but I can tell you it is the first pill that has helped my depression and I have tried them all. I went up to 120mg and it made me shakey so we backed down to 90mg. Another good non narcotic pain pill is Gabupentin. It makes me a little drowsy and that is OK.

I have a friend who originally went on Cymbalta for depression but the effect as a pain medication worked great for him! He is also a TBIer.

Give it try..you need to find some relief, girlfriend.
