Brain Injury Support Group
Traumatic brain injury occurs when a sudden trauma causes brain damage. TBI can result from a closed head injury or a penetrating head injury. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain. Outcome can be anything from complete recovery to permanent disability or death. A coma can also affect a child's brain.
I was covered by worker's comp also in my recovery. I am forever changed by my TBI. Worker's comp followed me for 3 years, and the hell I was in just got worse when it ended. I understand your inability to cope with this world you are in.
I think that when the therapy is going on we are on better schedules and able to keep up better. When we are on our own, there is that loss of structure, and we need structure to be able to keep our focus on what needs to be done next.
Try to find a schedule that works for you, and I hope the counseling is helpful for you. Please stop in and let your voice be heard on the board.
Take care!
SSE
As SSE says...there are many who will understand and support you along the way. I remember feeling so lost and misunderstood. This group almost made me feel normal...and ya I did say almost.
Most important they gave me hope and lots of it when I had none! I personally (as many here do as well) know how hard it is to get back up, brush yourself off and try again.
You can do this and when you need help...that's where we all come in.
Ah, yes, the cliff after rehab. It is rough, isn't it? They let you go and then you're on your own, isolated. It's very hard. Your writing about it made me remember what it was like for me.
I don't know if this will help, but, I have been in that exact place you've been in. And, although it took quite awhile, things have gotten better. Way better.
Firstly let us tell you that you ahve found a good place and you will get the support you need here. Feel free to talk complain, let of steam or as questions, whatever you need too on here.
Its a good group and you will find some good support.
Try not to rush yourself it takes time to come to terms with a brain injury. You will continue to get better and you are very early in the recovery phase now.
Somethings you will just have to come to terms with but most things you will find ways to do them maybe slightly differently to how you did them before but you will find ways to get your life back together.
I hope talking to the therapist helps you, I think it will but please come here and talk to us. Most of us have been there too and we want to help you figure out things
If you need us or are having a problem, were all here for each other. A lot of us have memory problems etc, not always easy to cope with.
