Traumatic brain injury occurs when a sudden trauma causes brain damage. TBI can result from a closed head injury or a penetrating head injury. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain. Outcome can be anything from complete recovery to permanent disability or death. A coma can also affect a child's brain.
It wasn't funny at the time but I just have to share this. On Saturday night I went with the Rector of our church to Salisbury Cathedral for an advent service. For my friends in the U.S. Salisbury Cathedral is the most amazingly beautiful place and in this service the church starts off in darkness but is very slowly lit with thousands of candles by the attendants as these gorgeous (very tiny) children who are in the Cathedral choir school process down the aisles with candles singing as they go. All very medieval and brilliant.
We were asked very firmly to switch off our mobile phones. Mine was already on silent but I panicked a bit and was a bit disorientated in the darkness. I decided to switch it off completely. Unfortunately I FORGOT how to switch it off, pressed a button but failed to swipe too. I have put my phone off so many times but I think the stress and darkness factor changed things. You guessed it; as complete silence fell, my mobile with a silly ringtone went off. 2000 heads turned towards me. Sadly, I was so embarrassed that I cannot remember very much at all of the service afterwards. But hey, I guess this is what happens when you have a B.I., you just cannot function with any degree of reliability however hard you try. So today, I feel a bit less embarrassed and am going to forget it. This is just the me I live with.

beautiful!!! After so many quirky things happened in the coarse of BI and healing...I developed the dry humor,but it took awhile after lots of frustration! Happy Holidays to you! Hugs!
Sorry to ramble- but I totally get your story. I could so see me doing this!!!

My favorite mistake , one that made everyone laugh ( and I do love laughter ) , was in a Bible study. We met at Bret and Renee's home. They had an Australian border collie named Sydney. We all had dessert and were talking , while slowly getting coats on to go home. At one point I said "Look,Sydney doesn't want us to leave. Her tail is between her legs". Bret and Renee started laughing uncontrollably and Renee said "Sidney doesn't have a tail". It turned out that she had had her tail snipped off at birth! I had never noticed this .
This happened a good 10 years ago. However, when a group of 15 of us recently were at Bret and Renee's for a dinner, Bret said "Do you mind if I tell the story of Sydney's tail?" Fortunately for me, someone had changed the subject and Sydney was forgotten. But I have been to that embarrassing place, too. I know my example is far simpler than yours, but I still have times when all I want to do is dig a hole and sink into it. These days I just laugh at myself and in time realize people will forget what happened, even if I don't. Have a very merry Christmas ( as we say on this side of the pond) .
