Traumatic brain injury occurs when a sudden trauma causes brain damage. TBI can result from a closed head injury or a penetrating head injury. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain. Outcome can be anything from complete recovery to permanent disability or death. A coma can also affect a child's brain.

I have to have surgery tomorrow August 3rd because the valve in my shunt is set to the highest setting and the shunt is still letting too much fluid drain from my brain. So the Neurosurgeon is going to go in and put another valve in my shunt somewhere in my neck to chest area.

I am very scared about this operation that I am going into tomorrow morning at 8:45. I don't feel good about it. I don't know if there is anybody out there how has gone thru similar operations or can relate.

Don't get me wrong I've had a lot of surgeries done but never one with this much anxiety.

Medical knowledge has increased so much, but that doesnt stop one feeling frightened. Anyone would be at this. You have courage. It may help you so much. Please let us know when your able.

It is hard to face another surgery when you say you have had them before but that tells me you are a strong. person..You. will be in my thoughts and prayers tonight,tomorrow, and the days ahead inhopes that you will feel much better after. God Bless You Loreali

I'm sure things will go well for you. This isn't a complicated surgery and I'm certain you'll do just fine.

I'm mostly looking forward to the positive results of the procedure! Please keep us posted.

We've talked . . . You know you are in my thoughts. I know you are scared. It is ok to be scared. But have your faith. Keep that with you. Know how strong you are and how much you have gone through. We will be awaiting news! Best to you!!!

I went into the hospital at 7:15 a.m. and came out at 12:00 p.m. Other than being a lot sore I'm okay. Thank you all for your kind words!!!

I think I did too much yesterday. I went to see the new Harry Potter with my mom and my sister. Since I only have one hand to use I had to reach over a lot to get things while we were at the movie.

So today I'm just laying up in my room taking it easy and letting my body rest. Which with me is a good thing.

Keep resting, Loreali. You need it after surgery!

Be really good to yourself - make sure you get plenty of fluids & don't try to do too much, ok?

Today Wednesday August 10th I have to go to the Neurosurgeon to get my stitches out and I can't stop thinking about how painful it will be to get them out.

My chest feels like it's being torn open when I have to do something for my right side because I don't have use of my right hand or arm.

I'm very scared and I don't want to go but I now that I have to. Wish me luck!!
