I'm very new to the world of bone marrow transplants. I've seen what wonderful results they can have because I volunteer on the children's cancer ward at a hospital near my house. I have a rare disease affecting all of my organ systems that is (as of now) incurable. However, there is a bit of promising research being done, and all my doctors are looking into having me receive a bmt because im just getting worse and worse and we're out of options. However, as of right now, my doctors have not told us if it is considered an experimental treatment, in which case my insurance would most likely NOT cover it. I'm wondering if anyone has insight into insurance coverage and this whole process because to be honest I'm terrified.

That said, however, that is a conversation you need to have between your doctors, your insurer and yourself. Have the doctor or medical facility contact the insurer and sound them out. They usually have someone on staff who handles that sort of thing, so it'll be easier for them to make the contact than for you. That way you'll know one way or the other, instead of worrying about it. Good luck, and I hope they agree to the coverage.
