First, I'd like to applaud you all. I read about those experiencing more severe sight issues - and should consider myself lucky. But I'm scared. After losing two parents, I'm losing my sight. I have what's been diagnosed as retinitis pigmentosa, and while I can see quite well and still drive by day - I'm seeing red flags in my future. Night driving is not unrestricted yet - but I stay off the road and have someone drive me to / from work - a job which is minimal in income and little promise ahead. Meeting friends or going to support group meetings - that meet at night - out of the question.

I'm scared looking down the road of my future. I drop something - and while I see just fine - all over the floor / room - whatever I've dropped goes into the Twilight Zone. Someone else - zones right to it. It's embarassing. A few weeks ago, someone asked "are you that blind?" I wanted to ask - are you that unkind - but it was my boss. I sometimes have to feel around the floor to find a dropped pen at work. I see the floor but not the pen.

What scares me is I've had a friend living upstairs who has been driving me whenever / wherever necessary - but we're having disagreements - that help may disappear. I'm scared. How do I get help / find someone else to help me with something so little as a ride to/ from work - or "I dropped this, and can't find it" once I'm alone? Without my ride to work - there's no job - PERIOD. My hours would be cut to the point where financially, I'd be broke. I can see - but I can't see. I have a sight disability - have been trained on a cane - but don't need it yet, except walking in dark areas at night - and not disabled enough for Disability or any basic medical coverage.

Suggestions? Help? With current economy, I'm in trouble - and not afraid to work - either from home or outside. Anyone want to share their RP or other experiences?
