My husband was diagnosed in Oct 2010, while on a birthday cruise, he stated urinating blood!! No other symptoms. Shocking...he is a healthy 69 year old, doesn't look his age. Diagnosed anywhere from t2a-t3a, they are never exact until they actually operate. He has had chemo, 2 cycles which he did very well in, only got nausea once or twice. Didn't loose his hair! The standard treatment for my husband was to shrink and stop the tumor to continue growing, so the body tolerate the surgery better. They say their is no indication of spread outside the bladder, they always said from the beginning his bladder must be removed due to the tumor reoccurring factor, so far they will remove bladder, prostate and any lymph nodes nearby. We also got a second opinion. The procedure will be mar 14, it's been a long, hard road. I suggest you call or read as much as possible on the website of the national cancer institute, i have spoken with them many times, they are wonderful and will send pamphlets with pertinent info for bladder cancer and options. I can't tell you how important it is to find the best urologist / oncologist surgeon, that specializes in bladder cancer and has a history of the procedures. Always ask questions and write them down.Good luck with your husband, he is young and they have come a long way in treatment, my prayers are with you and please stay in touch. I was diagnosed with gancer in my bladder, prostate,uretha.

The doctors recomended surgury and in april of 2007 they took all of

my plumbing out and left me with a stoma and a bag. Not the best

but beats the alternative. They recommended chemo, but I decided

against it. I am 74 but honestly I feel younger

My husband was diagnosed in Oct 2010 with stage 4, inoperable urothelial carcinoma and another type of cancer also in his bladder~which had spread outside the bladder wall and into his lymp nodes and lungs. The Doctors said he had had cancer for atleast two years when he was diagnosed.. He is 53 years old, a heavy smoker and drinker.He received chemo at MD Anderson in Houston, Texas. Just recently we decided to seek treatment in our home town because the 6 hour drive to Houston was getting too hard for him. The chemo slowwed down the cancer several times but he is having side effects from the chemo and now cancer pain. The most important thing for you both is to remain positive and support each other emotionally as much as possible.Wishing you both the very best.

I was dx with bladder cancer in 08. I was urinating blood, and I was only 45 at the time. I kept telling the doctor, and he kept saying it was an infection, and giving me antibiotics. The pain one night became excruciating. I ended up in an er. They did an trans vUltrasound, and just by chance happened to spot a tumor. I was lucky. Since then I have had Nine Turbts, removal of superfical tumors, and thiotepa a chemo instilled right into the bladder, the doctor (urologist oncologist) could not use BCG on me, would have been too toxic for me.

I'm checked every three months at this point.

I've also had stage 3c breast cancer. It's been a long haul for me. If you ever want to chat please add me as a friend.
